SHA News Top Shelf Skills Challenge
Top Shelf Skills Challenge

Here are the top 3 female and male skaters and goaltenders. Only the top female and male skater advance to the Hockey Canada Skills Challenge. Unfortunately, Hockey Canada will be selecting the top 5 female and male goaltenders from across the country to compete in the national final.  SHA has recently received news that Eliah Bedwell of Langenburg will be competing against four other female goaltenders in Quebec.

Also if the top players can not attend the Hockey Canada Skills Challenge the second place finisher will have the honour of representing Saskatchewan at the national final.

The top 3 female skaters are:

    1. Charlie Elke (Jansen, HMHA) – advances to the Hockey Canada Skills Challenge Final

    2. Jessie Sibley (Luseland, Luseland Minor Hockey)

    3. Kendra Gerbig (North Battleford, BMHA)

The top 3 female goaltenders are:

    1. Eliah Bedwell (Langenburg, Esterhazy Minor Hockey) advances to the Hockey Canada Skills Challenge Final

T2. Brianne Hillmer (Moose Jaw, Moose Jaw Minor Hockey)

T2. Sarah Olson (Big River, Canwood Minor Hockey

The top 3 male skaters are:

    1. Jarrett Fontaine (Humboldt, HMHA) advances to the Hockey Canada Skills Challenge Final

    2. Jordan Tkatch (Prud’homme, HMHA)

    3. Eric Pfeifer (North Battleford, BMHA)

The top 3 male goaltenders are:

    1. Luke Grassl (Maidstone, Lashburn Minor Hockey)

    2. Grant Naherniak (Humboldt, HMHA)

    3. Owen Bachtold (Whitewood, Whitewood Minor Hockey)

The attached spreadsheet has the official times, scores and rankings for all players that participated at the Top Shelf Skills Challenge.  Please note there are 2 pages (Male and Female).  You can change between the pages by clicking the tabs at the bottom left of the spreadsheet.

Competition was unknown
written by S/C Colts, March 04, 2008
In Swift Current parents did not even know that there was a skills competition for the Pee Wee girls. It sounds like it would have been great, I only wish that we had known about it.

Way to go players. Improvements-the kids need to skate before and not only stretch. We don't play games or even practise before limbering up. Also I feel sorry for the last kids, the test required 50-60 passes on one skill-the ice wasn't flooded!! There was time for this. Making it a provincial to remember (FUN) needs to be worked on.

Congratulations to the winners and all the participants!!! Some improvements do need to be made. The last few kids didn't really get a fair trial as the ice around the pylons was pretty cut up by the time they had their turn.

The weave and transition drills around the pylons, the ice did get cut up, but the pylons were moved periodically to fresh ice to provide fairness to all participants.
