Today the players are off with no practice. A few get their daily physio treatments and then most of them enjoy a day off to see the Olympic excitement. Al, my co-host is taking the coaches skiing on Grouse mountain. For those who do not know where Grouse mountain is when you look north of Vancouver you see 2 ski hills, the one west and higher in elevation is Cypress and the East hill is Grouse and at a lower elevation. Cypress is hosting the snowboard, arials, sno cross etc and for those of you following those sports you will know that they had to truck snow in to create a base also helicopters dropped snow on the runs (I am sure us Saskatchewanians could have sold them some). So Grouse being lower in elevation has even less snow, and after a $45 tram ride up and renting skiis the coaches did about 4 or 5 runs and called it a day and went to the chalet and had a pop or two. Â Even some of the players showed up with their families and enjoyed the spectacular view. On the way back they stopped at a fishing shop and bought some gear for home. I helped the trainers back at the rink with anything they needed for a few hours and then we watched some of the Sweden - USA Women's semi final game. USA handled them easily and then Canada beat the Finns. Canada - USA gold game and Sweden - Finland Bronze game. Both will be grat to watch on Thursday.
Outside there are again many lineups and thousands of people. I run into the family of my friend Brad Bombardir (played with New Jersey Devils) from Powell River they were enjoying the sites but not lining up for anything. The day ended with me dropping off the coaches at Corderos, a very nice restaurant. The next day I find out that they sat by Royalty. They were eating and the King and Queen and Prince of Sweden also came there for supper. I went to Mcdonalds and ate my own gourmet meal. |
